I am looking to by my first JK, and I have a few questions. The Jeep will have to double as a trail vehicle, and a second family car.

I found an 08' Rubicon Unlimited with low miles for a good price. It has a RIPP Supercharger kit. I know a Jeep isn't a performance vehicle, but I do like a daily driver with a little zip to it. Does anyone have experience with decreased engine life when running a supercharger? Not looking to make a big investment only to blow a motor.

Also, for dual use like this, am I better looking for a 2012 or newer with the 3.6?

Appreciate the input.

Just my opinion the Supercharger could be a money pit, not sure how long they last. There are easier ways to give the 3.8 some zip.

Displacement rules. Harder on fuel economy, but a Naturally Asperated engine will last longer. The auto industry is going turbo small liter engines, to meet fuel and emission regulations. Turbos and superchargers can be a maintenance nightmare, and costly to repair.

First JK? I would avoid something modded like that. Go with a 2012+ w/3.6 that is near stock and add as you learn the vehicle. Let's face it, the person who puts a supercharger on a Jeep is highly unlikely to baby it.

Although, I just noticed your location. A 3.8 could easily use help at altitude. Still, I stand by my recommendation.
