Hi everyone , I recently purchased my 2017 JKU WW in January of this year,It’s Granite Crystal Metalic so of course one of the first mandatory upgrades LOL I needed were black lug nuts. I did all my research and went with Quadratec spline drive black lug nuts. They looked great. To quote there description “correct 60 degree tapered seat to work with ALL factory and aftermarket steel and aluminum wheels for Jeep threads 1/2 X20 per OE”. Torqued to 100 ft lbs all seemed well. Last week I developed a leak in the front passenger tire, so I removed to put on the spare one of the lug nuts was stuck in the wheel. The tapper seams to be too short so they grab too far In on the seat which in turn caused the seat to spli out one of the holes on that wheel and destroyed the tapper in the others. I removed the other wheels and the rear driver side had three holes split.
Emailed the company twice in the last week and have heard nothing and they are closed when I get off work. Hopefully I can get the pics to load here. Any advice or has anyone had issues with this. What about Quadratec do you guys like them? I’ve bought several things from them and really like them so far. The versahitch looks really cool on and performs well.
Thanks sorry for the long post I’m just pissed off and ruined two wheels. Yes it’s a good excuse to buy larger wheels tires and install a lift but I wanted to wait a little while I’ve already spent too much money this year.....

First off, the side by side photo is telling. There IS a clear difference between the lug nuts. The tapering and the raised ridge are clear indications too.

Without having a measuring device to be sure, I can say that the right had bolt clearly would never work. The bolt-on the left with the raised ridge has that ridge for a reason. It is to "spread" the tension evenly once torqued.

When you torqued the bolt on the right you basically caused severe stress to the metal, and it fractured. In other words, you pressed it into a hole that it was too big for, and sooner or later something had to give.

Get a piece a paper, preferably with a hole punched in it, and then put something that is larger than the hole. You will see the hole expand and even start to tear or fracture.

If anything just stay with the OEM bolts, and this is a painful wallet lesson.

Yes I completely agree. Just wanted to inform others not to make the mistake I made. Seeing as how Quadratec is a Jeep exclusive company you would think there products would be appropriate for the applications they say they fit. There is a definite size difference between the two nuts the taper is the same but the length is different causing it to grip on much less of a surface area. Yes you live and learn.
