I'm pulling my hardtop off in the spring and I'm wondering what everyone else does when they go topless. I'm considering a cheap soft top so I can put it up easily if rain is in the forecast. What about going with nothing? I've seen it done but doesn't the rain wreak havoc with the electronics?

The JK dash is not weather sealed tight. Do not leave it out in the open because rain water can creep into the plastic panels and get the internal wiring shorted.

To be 100% honest, I take the hard top off and I never go out for a drive unless there is a 0% chance of rain. If there is any chance of rain, I either put the hardtop back on (which is easy with a hoist), or I take our other car.

That's saved me from the need to buy a soft top or some sort of emergency top :)

keep a look out on craigslist and facebook market place. Sometimes you will find a brand new oem softtop that came with a dual top jeep when new.
When searching for option for my 2 door, the prices for the oem on those sites were $400 and up.
I think I got lucky when looking on Amazon, and one day spotted this $600 top that must have been mis-priced on that day to $140, so I jumped.

Like shopping for anything, the reviews were that It's The Greatest and It's Garbage. I have to wait for warmer weather to find out, it is sitting in the back room while I suffer through the quiet hardtop experience.
I think for most people, finding a soft top that meets their wants is fairly easy, although there are many variations and quality. The hard part is what do I do with the hardtop.

I will also carry a tarp or cover for when the doors and window are out, the interior of the JK ain't like jeeps used to be.

Thank you sir!

I bought one of these for when I'm out with the top and doors off. I had a cheaper one from the parts store. The first one had a rip in it and after I exchanged it the 2nd one leaked through if water pooled on top. The Rain Gear cover is super thick and has so far kept the water completely out. It goes on in under a minute once you get the straps adjusted. It rolls up into a bag about the size of a gallon of milk so it doesnt take up much room in the back. I've got a Rugged Ridge sun shade and so far the few times I've got caught in the rain I found as long as i was moving i hardly got wet. It sucks, but it's worth it having the top off all the time.

How long does it take to put it on?

First time it took about 3 minutes but after adjusting the straps I can get it on tight in under a minute. I roll it out over one side of the roll bar, unfold it, and since the straps down. Takes about 2 or 3 to roll it up tight and get it back in the bag.

Wow! That's way faster than I thought. Thank you!
