I owe you a beer, that was exactly the issue and I see why now as well. The top hood liner is sagging a bit over time so when I step on the gas hard it sucks the liner down over the small air intake opening since a part of the opening already seals to the hood when it's closed.

I have a stock air box. Also did that link right? It seems to be bringing me to a page of mechanics rather than a story about this issue.
