Hey guys,

I recently had to take my Wrangler in to be checked because of ticking noises in the engine while it runs. I was told it was the cam shaft that has been broken causing the noise. My wrangler is a 2016 Sahara. Does anyone know if this is a common issue and what to do to fix. I was told it could cost $4500 if not covered. Thanks for the help guys.

Which engine you have , my guess the 3.6? The 3.6 has quite a few issues from the problems on this Forum in the last couple weeks.

For that kind of money you could almost get a new engine.

Is there a more reliable engine with the Wranglers? I was looking to get a newer one but kinda discouraged over this.
The older Jeep gen, 1997 to 2006. The TJ, in my opinion, is more reliable and DIY-able than the latter 2007 and up. Caveat is that the 07 to 2011's had the 3.8 and they're proving to go upwards lf 200k.

The camshaft is broken and all it does is tick?? With a broken camshaft, you’re lucky it runs at all.

Is there a miscommunication here?
Agree with the above. If a camshaft is broken, certain valves wont open. It would run incredibly rough if it runs at all. I would ask another mechanic to look.

yep, my 2009 has the "hated" 3.8.

Not as much power, but far easier to work on and I'm over 200k with few problems. Get a manual though. the auto for the early Jks was not good.

I have to agree. A broken cam shaft should be causing way more than a "tick."

Same issue cam shaft wear 3.6 pentastar on 2015 jku. Took it in and dealer replaced all cams lifters rocker arms and rear main seal. My worry is the metal that was worn off the cams. anybody help is much appreciated
