I'm thinking about getting an awning. Do any of you have one on your rigs? If so, what are the pros and cons of having an awning that is mounted to your vehicle at all times?

An awning like on the side of an RV? Why not just carry a collapsible tent for when you want to setup camp?
 
I like the idea and I'd probably have one of I was doing more overland trips than I do now. Smittybilt has a nice one with good reviews, but if there was a downside, it's the fact you need a full roof rack to mount the thing to and that alone will cost you 5x what the awning costs.
