What did you do to your JK today?

Wife found another use for the overrider bar

The hardtop the body shop ordered was delayed again. Finally just got the insurance to give us the money and ordered the BestTop Trektop Pro Hybrid Slantback Soft Top and still ahead. Looking forward to it being shipped and installing it.

Relocated my license plate today. Previous owner didn't have a spare and had the plate on the tailgate where the spare goes. I'm getting a spare so I bought a bracket and mounted it where I'm guessing it was originally. Easy operation except I ran into an issue where there were no snap nuts (I'm retired IT and we called them "cage nuts" for mounting servers in racks) to bolt the new bracket onto the body.

I found some online but I was up against a time crunch, as I'm taking the Jeep in to the shop Tuesday to have the 2" body lift removed. This would make accessing those bottom holes a bit more troublesome. Online was $1.10 but wouldn't be here in time. Found some at the local Jeep dealer for $4.50 each.

Bit the bullet and bought 5. Only needed 4 but the way I work on things I usually drop an important screw down a hole. It's only money anyway.
Fortunately the wiring and connector for the original license plate light was still inside the body.

I used a mixture of 3/4" #14 and #12 hex head sheet metal screws to bolt the bracket to the snap nuts. 2 of the #14s just wouldn't work for some reason so I used 2 #12s.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here's a list of stuff in case anyone does a search in the future and runs across this thread:

Here's a shot of where the snap nuts go:

Removed the spare tire, to prolong replacing the tailgate hinges. Good thing, the carrier was cracked and BITCHED as well. 13yrs of salt and just a Girly 16in tire on the back. So I see the kids here have deletes where the spare went. Gorilla taped the vent (mice) and MacGyvered my funky third brake light. And I did not have to pull out the VISA. Good Times

And last project for the day is complete. New LED driving lights in and properly wired with solder/shrink tube and sheathing. Hadda physically drop the front sway bar to get them out and in. That pile of boxes is shrinking rapidly.

Two big ones left - stereo install and eight rock lights. Working tomorrow and Monday with rain in the forecast for the next week. Yuck! Jeep won't fit in the garage to get out of the weather. Maybe next weekend.

Changed the headlights. I had already swapped to LED lights, but one died. No idea why. Also drove it to meet some puppies. Picked out a new woofer who will be coming home with us mid-May. Have not settled on a name yet, but I am leaning towards Droolius Caesar.

The other name in the running is Luke Skybarker. Yes. My entire family is nerdy.

If we had chosen a black one, the name Arf Vader was a possibility...

Installed a hood prop rod. A previous owner had removed the OEM prop rod. I debated whether or not to go with gas struts but just went with a normal rod. I'm not under the hood much other than to check fluids and stuff. Not fond of folding the hood all the way back onto the windshield every time. Bought one for $40 from Morris 4x4 Center: https://www.morris4x4center.com/kentrol-stainless-steel-hood-prop-rod-30594.html. Probably could have found one cheaper at a pick and pull junk yard but it's just too easy to have stuff delivered. lol.

Previous owner had drilled out the rivet and there's no way to get on the other side of the hole to put a nut on a bolt so I tapped it with a 5/16s tap. Not much metal to tap but it's holding fine so far.

I am down to one hound. During the peak of my hunting, had four running around in a 950sq/ft home. ( A lot of property here in the country) and will did have a fence to contain them, until it started snowing. I digress, a couple of weeks ago our local SPCA was looking for forever homes. My wife said to me, are you going to walk them? feed them? pick up after them? No, I work on the JK, and your 1996 Chevy Muscle truck. If he, she is a Bernard, Droolius seems correct. those paws look big. All Good

We're animal people. Right now, we have one Siamese cat (Lucy), one Cairn Terrier (Peyton), and one Australian Shepard/Border Collie (Rowdy). We've lost two cats (Tom and Lilly) in the past year. At any one time, we have had as many as 4 dogs and 5 cats. Plus one of the cats (Slutty McHoebag) was constantly pregnant. We've also had ferrets, Guinee Pigs, Parakeets, a Cockateel... We've got 1/4 acre fenced, and own half the (rural) block; a bit over 2 acres. There are walking/biking trails all around us, and we're only about 2 miles from the lake.

He's a Great Pyrenees, so basically a fuzzy horse.

Today I prepped Thor for our trip. Leaving tomorrow for a couple days in Estes Park. No real Jeeping there, but some gorgeous roads in Rocky Mountain National Park, and one easy Jeep trail.

The week after we're off to Moab for a brief visit. We will only have a couple days to explore, and we have not decided what to run.
