Started hearing this on my new-to-me ‘07 JK and after reading all the threads about lifter tick I’d like to know if I have it:

No, and it’s getting dark right now so I’ll check that next.
No sparks, at least not visible ones. 😂. But the engine also sounded fine when I just ran it. It’s only about 45 degrees outside right now - maybe it just doesn’t like the cold? On the bright side I found the coolant leak I’d been smelling since I bought it and it was just a loose hose clamp - so at least one thing is off my list.

May have a lifter sticking occasionally on ya. I give my 07 a taste of atf right before I change oil. The detergent helps keep ‘em clean. I also switched to Royal Purple 5w30 which really quietened it down. It’s got 94k on her right now. As u mentioned may want to change wires for peace of mind. Good luck and welcome to the forum for W.Va. Keep us updated please

BigAl, please explain “a taste of atf” ? What exactly do you do?

Dad was a mechanic for around 60 years also my brother. They always did it. 1/4 bottle of automatic tranny fluid in right before oil change. Run engine 10 minutes then change the oil. Detergent cleans out the sludge. My 07 runs whisper quiet.

Thanks - I’ll try that with the next oil change; so much to do I wish the weather was better right now. Do you use a Mopar oil filter or a premium aftermarket one?
