So, I bought my 2008 JK hard top a couple weeks ago from a private owner. The PO did not tell me that the Jeep started it’s life as a soft top and the hard top was added later. The hard top has rear window defroster wires in the glass along with a wiper blade and a washer spray. Problem is, I have no controls to operate these things. I’m thinking that it would be a massive pain to get these working. The steering column control would have to be replaced and I’m assuming all the wiring and tubing front to back would have to be installed?

Anyone have any experience with this ?

Thanks
Tom

You are correct, It is a royal PITA. I think Jeep sells a kit which also includes everything Im not sure if the rear wiper motor is included. (Might be extra)
You can find online videos of hack installs
For the dash mount but you still need the kit. Dealer install is $$$,

I already have the unit on my rear window and the electrical and water connections inside. ( see pics). The problem is, I don’t have the up front controls which I believe come all together on the wiper control arm on the steering column ? My control arm has no rear window wiper/washer/defrost options.

Then you would only need the wiper kit from the dealer. It comes with the wiring and the additional controls that go on the steering arm. That does have to come apart to install.

Based on this Mopar kit at Quadratec, I think it may be doable to make the upgrade in your garage. Seems to be fairly plug and play. I had to remove and replace the aftermarket rear camera on my JK when I bought it. Because panels and carpet are easy removed/replaced, getting everything apart and back together was pretty easy. I have never worked on a 2008 JK, but I can't image this is going to be a high skill upgrade.

I don't know about that particular year JK but my 2015 has the defroster control on the selector knob for the defroster/AC/ floor. Where is it located on a 2008?

Yes, the defroster button would be (is) on the same dial as the a/c button. The wiper/washer controls are on the control arm at the steering column.
