Just got a 14 JKU rubicon. Has 2 in coil spacer and original shocks. Would the ride benefit from the rancho 9ks or the bil 5100s or something else? I’m happy with the way it looks. 35 12.5 17 tires. Just trying to make it better as a dd. I won’t be doing any off roading. Thanks.

Do they have extension brackets on the shocks? if they don’t have extensions I suspect new shocks would improve the ride as the shocks may be overextending themselves and reaching max travel.

I have the Bilstein 5100 (the AEV 2.5” lift) and have been real happy with the ride, but being springs and all were replaced hard to say how much impact just the shocks would have.

I would agree. I'm guessing that the shocks are too short. Mine came with the lift I have (teraflex 2.5 with 9550 shocks) and I am super happy with the ride.

Regardless of what shocks you go with, you really need to make sure that you have the correct length for the lift.

To me, if you aren't doing any real off-roading then maybe some good Rancho 9000's would be great (even if you were doing off-roading) Not knowing the mileage on your rig but it may be in need of new shocks as it is and those 9k's are really good but you are going to get a stiffer ride for sure

Congrats, I too just picked up my first Jeep (14 JKU Rubicon Anvil) a few weeks ago with a little over 18k miles on it…. Loving the ride so far after coming from a built out 4Runner. The manual keeps it engaging in LA traffic.

What's the lift? Are the tires all-terrain (AT) or MT?
So, what I did with my 2014 with a 2.5" lift, in order:
1. Air down your tires from the recommended pressure; start with 5 lbs less.
2. Replace shocks with a correct length. As a DD with little or no off-road future, I'm not sure you need to spend the extras cash on adjustable shocks. I do some modest trails and the like with Rancho RS5000 and I'm happy with them.
3. Replaced tires from the Toyo MT to the BFG TA K02
4. Replaced the drag link- had a bend that was less than 1/4" out of true and that fraction of an inch was huge. Trying to get the front end aligned was nearly impossible, so we pulled the drag link and checked the true.

Without knowing anything about the lift specs or hardware involved, that's about all I can recommend.

All really good advice up above, start with the shocks though, get the 5000Xs if you can find them. Cheap and plush ride. Buy the 0-2" lift ones, they usually run a little long so those should work. Try to find an 35" AT that is either C rated or SL rated. I wouldn't get KO2s for just the street, they're super strong for rocks but they're heavy. I like lighter C or SL tires on our pickup and JK bc I'm pretty sure I won't be crawling rocks on purpose with these 2 vehicles. The lighter tires ride better and help with braking and acceleration feel. I like Duratracs bc they look awesome, come in lighter ratings, good in a lot of conditions and the rubber seems soft and I feel like they grip really good in curves on the street.
