Hello,
Recently the radio in my jeep has completely stopped working. I removed the radio and checked all wires/fuses but everything seemed fine. I figured the stock radio had gone bad due to age so I ordered a factory refurbished replacement to make replacement simple. Installed the "new" radio but still nothing. Nothing as in no clock, no interior lights that come on with the headlights, and definitely no sound. This makes me believe it has to be a problem with the wiring obviously. I have followed the power wire and could not find any problems. Could there be a problem with the wiring harness with all of the colored wires? At a loss and any input is welcomed as I would like to fix this problem without spending a fortune on a new setup.

Thank you!

Have you ask.

Have you checked all the fuses under the hood? All of them? Have you tested said power wire to ensure that it is getting power?

What happened to cause the radio to fail? Did it slowly die, or worked great one second then the next nothing?

Did the interior lights fail at the same time as the original radio, or did that happen after the install?

This could be a ground wire issue as well.

Hey Mac,
I have checked the power wire and it seems fine. That being said, I do not actually have a way to make sure power is flowing through this wire. I would say it was a gradual problem. Towards the end, every now and then I would have to mildly tap on the top of the radio for it to turn on but now there is nothing. I was a little confusing in my last post. When I said interior lights, I am referring to all of the buttons on the radio such as "seek" or "time." None of those buttons light up anymore when turning the running lights or headlights on as they used to do.

Check the antenna wire. That is used for a main grounding point.

Ok, so this is a radio only problem, that's good, and tons easier.

So, the radio lights all worked on the old one, but not on the new install? It is possible that you got a bad radio. It sounds like they didn't work on the old one either though.

Do you have the premium sound package in yours? Easy to tell because there will be a subwoofer in the back right near the tailgate. If you do, then you have a factory amp to also worry about. I think it is under the steering wheel, but I've never had to mess with one.

if no sub, it's a much simpler system.

One thing to check is that none of the pins in the wiring harness are bent. It can happen, though it doesn't explain the original failure.

Sorry about the confusion. The radio lights have not worked on either the original radio nor the replacement. Seems to be zero power or anything coming to the radio. I inspected every wire I could find yesterday and everything seemed perfectly fine. Yes mine does have the factory sub and amp. I checked all the connections to the amp also but nothing happened again. Thinking it might be time to take it to a shop.
