Giving this forum my last hope before towed to the dealer. I changed out the case on my factory key fob. Went to start my JEEP…it idled for a few seconds then turned off, second attempt same, third attempt no longer cranked. Vehicle battery is good. Fob locks/unlocks doors, all the lights are on but now includes the red security dot above temp gauge.

Other forums give this advice:
-Unplug/plug the J13 and/or M13 IOD fuse (5min)
-Disconnect battery terminals, hold together 30 sec, reconnect

This initial troubleshooting did not work. Would it be a SKIM issue. No way to test, if so calling the tow truck 😔

When a key FOB battery is bad it will do that, I had that happen before a couple times and when I changed the battery no more problems.

What do you mean you changed out the case on it? Do you have another FOB?

Did you change the case to an all metal or carbon fiber? This will sometimes block the rf signal from the key and the skim won't pick up the signal.

Do you have two keys? If so try the other one. And yes what do you mean by “changed out the case”?

Interesting to know on the carbon fiber, not that I plan on it but would not have thought of that happening.

I wouldn't have thought of it either until it happened. Could it of been a coincidence that the key was starting to crap out? 🤷‍♂️

Changed out the factory housing to an aftermarket. It is my understanding the battery is to lock/unlock the doors and has no effect for startup.

Update: Called out a technician to my house. He ran the diagnostic and it was a faulty motherboard. A new one was switched out and reprogrammed, took 10 minutes. A fraction compared to having it towed to the dealer and all the ridiculous fees for a new key and labor. Be sure to treat that motherboard with care if you plan to re use.
