TPMS Sensor

I am new the the JK world, I had a TJ for many years and just sold it and bought a JK to accommodate my growing family of now 5. I just purchased a 2013 JK with the 3.6 auto transmission. I just rotated the tires (did a 5 tire rotation). The gauge screen is telling me to "Check TPM System" and the TPMS light flashes for a minute and then goes solid every time I start the Jeep. At first I thought it just needed to reset itself and just drive a while. This afternoon, I added air to each of my 4 tires (I did not add air to the spare). As I added air to each tire I could see that the PSI on the gauge went up and they corresponded to the correct location of the tire. That rules out a bad TPMS sensor and that it just needs more time to locate in their correct position on the Jeep.

So this tells me the system is reading the correct tires in the correct locations and that it recognizes the spare was moved to used position and that the tire I rotated to the spare is not coming up on the screen. If the system is reading all of the correct tires in their locations and PSI's correctly why am I still having the "Check TPM System" message and having my light blinking and then going solid? It never did this before I rotated the tires.

What I did notice is I pumped the tires up last night to 42-43 psi and this morning that 3 of them were at 32 and one was at 26. I have beadlocks on the rims and I then noticed that I could hear air leaking from them. They do not leak air when I have them at their normal psi of 26-28. They will hold that psi for weeks on end. Maybe I need to check their torque. I think this is a separate issue since I have never had an issue with the TPMS prior to me rotating them today. I'm just throwing all info that I have out there to see if anything sticks.

So I have tried many things:

-Swapping the spare back to the spare,
-Trying different pressures
-Reseting the whole DTC and clearing all codes (this makes it go away for a while but within a couple miles it is back on)
-Changing tire size, tire inflation with my Superchips Flashcal

Everything works as it should (when I inflate/deflate any tires) my PSI adjusts correctly for each tire as I go. If the warning didn't come on and the light wasn't illuminated, then I would think everything is working properly.

The last thing I can think is it basically at the same time as when I did the rotation, my module went bad. I know where the rear one is, but I do not know where the front two modules are. I think it might be that because for a few hours one time my front two tires were reading on the opposite side (but now they work exactly as they should).

If anyone can help guide me to where the modules are up front I would greatly appreciate it. I have looked online on forums and pictures and cannot find them. I have also looked under the Jeep but I don't see them either.

I am lost and just very annoyed at the issue. Everything works great except for the annoyance.

Thank you.

Take it to a tire shop. Buddy of mine owns one and he has a tool that he holds next to the tire to check that the sensor is working. I'm guessing that the PSI adjustment is the display on the dash, however I'm unsure how that system functions and I could see a partial failure causing the light.

@MacGuyver I did take it to a tire shop and they tested all 5 sensors and all checked out good and none said they were low on battery. All gave their tool a reading that it was working as it should. I am currently taking one tire off at a time to see if somehow one of them is malfunctioning and leaving the unused tire in my garage.

TPMS sensors are useless. At least that's my opinion. I deleted mine shortly after buying my jeep. Couldn't be happier.

Even on my commuter Honda, I'm having those things removed. Useless and annoying.

@Threepointsix how do you delete the whole system without it setting off the dummy light and giving the error warning? I would be okay with deleting it, if it is able to get rid of this annoyance. Thanks.

Like I told you my Post no 2. I did it with my Hypertec Programmer.

Some tire stores can do probably.

Jscan can do it, too. I doubt a shop will do it...

"... (T)he National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (49 USC 30122(b)), which includes a "make inoperative" provision. This provision "prohibits manufacturers, distributors, dealers, or motor vehicle repair businesses from knowingly making inoperative, in whole or in part, any part of a device or element of design installed on or in a motor vehicle in compliance with an applicable motor vehicle safety standard."

Essentially, this means that you can't perform any service that makes the TPMS inoperative, regardless of an owner's request."

(cut & paste from another site, so take it for what it's worth)

To delete you need to get jscan or an equivalent program to turn off the tpms option in the pcm.
Do a search and you will find links to what you need.

Does jscan completely disable it or does it just disable the light and the warning? The main reason I actually like the TPM system is it helps when airing back up to know where I am at. Just curious to what extent it actually disables it. Thanks.

You can raise or lower the alarm point at which the light will come on also

@mrjp it doesn't have to do with the alarm point. I have adjusted that level down to 21 and almost back to stock at 31. It's setting off the warning not because of the pressure but some sort of fault.

Is you traction control light on as well? It could be a speed sensor. There is some annoying interconnectedness of some faults for JKs.

I used this (see below post) to stop the onboard computer from reading the TPMS sensors. Then I went as far as replacing my wheels and tires and going to regular valve stems. Screw the TPMS BS.

@MacGuyver no the traction control light is not on

@Threepointsix and @BLACKJKU Is JScan and the AEV ProcCal required to stay plugged into the OBDii continually or is it something that reprograms the ecu and then you can remove it? I ask because I installed a radio that also plugs into the OBDii so that I can read trans temp, coolant temp, and all the other computer stuff and I do not want to lose that.
