How many people with manual transmissions start out by using second gear instead of first gear?

So, my question is how many people using their "manual transmission" start out by using second gear instead of first gear? I use first gear if I'm on a hill, but I tend to use second gear from an easy start. I have 85,000 miles and am still using the same clutch, I actually have a centerline clutch waiting to be installed, and that's been sitting in the box for just over a year now. In case someone asks I have a 6 speed.

Good to know, as I've been doing it for years with no stress on motor or gears. I was just wondering if I shouldn't be doing it, hence the question.

I have 4.10 and tend to start in 1st, I have the 3.8 which may matter. As far as I know it's the original everything, and I'm almost to 210K

Only around 40K of that was me though, so I'm unsure if there was ever a fix.

I have the same thought, which is why sometimes I choose not to take off in 2nd. When I leave work it’s through a residential area and the stop signs are not very far apart and often I take off in 2nd gear and leave it to the next stop sign and seldom shift.

Starting in 2nd from a dead stop requires the clutch to be feathered more, increasing wear of the clutch disc. I use 1st to get the Jeep rolling before shifting to 2nd. I have a Rubicon with 4.10s and 35s. I did the same when it had 33s.

When I had an NV4500 five speed, 4.56 gears and 35s in my Cherokee, starting off in 2nd was routine as 1st gear was around 6.35.

I have a '16 Rubicon and stgock size tires. Second tends to be a little slow on flat ground let alone up hill, so I use first.

Yes it is slow on take off that is for sure. I don’t do it up hill. I usually just do it when I know there are a lot of stops and short distance to the next stop sign.
