Hi all, I just replaced my right rear wheel/ axle bearing because the seal was weeping and had a bit of movement. When I checked the movement after I finished the job it still has movement, and when I checked the left side it also has movement, is this normal?

How come the left side isn’t leaking given it has movement? Or am I just seeing a lateral movement and is this ok?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Steve.

By lateral I assume you are implying it slides in and out towards the differential? I am not 100% but I believe some lateral movement is acceptable. My son damaged the axle in our 05 Silverado when we had it and after replacing it, it also had very minimal movement in that direction.

Yes, in and out movement. There’s no noise or oil leaks, just odd that it moves like that, unless of course if it’s normal then that’s ok I guess

The axles held in by round pins, c-clips etc etc and have to have some play. Thats normal on any straight axle that isn't floating.
