Hello everyone, new to the forum and I figured this would be the place to ask this question. I’m planning on purchasing a 2007 JKU Sport but it comes with a soft top I’ve never seen before. It surrounds all four windows with the plastic type you would see on a soft top in the back, but I’ve never seen it like this. My question is visibility, durability, noise and any other issue or non issues if anyone has experience with this setup. Pics included.

What you have there is a unicorn.

Factory half doors were much more common with previous generations of Wranglers, but with the JK and the introduction of four doors the half doors became more and more rare.

It is hard to tell, but the top itself looks brand new and a newer variant. It appears to be a premium top. A picture of the back and one of the inside roof would tell me a few things. (if the inner top liner is white it's a standard top, if black its premium)

Summers I run a soft top and I have better visibility than in my hard top,

I can't speak to wind noise or any of that, but like I said, factory half door are in high demand. I would love to have some of those for my jeep.

You could always buy full doors for the jeep, though I can't speak to the cost.

My jeep doesn't have that set up but I looked at one when I was shopping. I love the looks of this set-up with the top off. I can't offer any real help other than saying it should hold up as well as any other part of the a soft top. Just keep in mind that "rolling" down a window will require a little extra work and if your ok with that I say go for it.

Like MacGuyver says factory half doors are pretty rare on JK's. My brother in law has them on his 2016 Willy's and they are awesome! Buy it! That is as long as everything else on the vehicle checks out.

Those half doors are rare as hell. Not sure about that soft top, but those upper soft doors might actually be Bestop. I'll admit, I've never seen soft upper doors on a JK before.

In a cold climate I wouldn't want half doors over full doors, but down here in Arizona I'd rather half half doors over full doors any day!

Whats up MacGuyver!! One of my favorite shows as a kid, lol. I was sent a video, it has a white interior top so it's most likely standard. What is the difference from the premium and standard versions? It does have some wear and tear but that's to be expected in an '07. Here's the link if anyone is interested in more.

Thanks for the reply Chris, and that was my worry!! I've never seen them before. I tried to search them up but I wasn't 100% sure I was finding the right info. That's why I came here, someone has to have seen this set up before and I was right. Lots of help and all of it was positive, so I'm planning on heading there and giving it a test drive. I'll let the forum know how it went!!

Sounds good, definitely let us know!

Those doors are probably close to $4000 if you buy them from the dealer, paint them, etc.

In a climate like Florida I would love those half doors. Heck, here in Arizona I would love half doors too.

Test drive was excellent. I crawled underneath and there was slight oil on the transfer case. Is this something that raises a red flag?

Well, I got it for 13k out the door. 110k miles, excellent condition, near perfect carfax. It was very well maintained within recommended service timeframe. I think I’ll be happy. I’m always nervous tho when buying a car, especially used.

Thank y’all. It took some dealing, they wanted 14,970 and I was like, nah man I can’t do that. Said 13k out the door and stood my ground lol.

Sorry for the delay in response. Grats on the new jeep, I'm jealous of the top, the doors, and the color. A great find for a good price.

Premium top is is just a different material. Feels more like cotton, not sure how it hold the weather out. When you touch it, 'premium' makes sense. However performance wise I don't think it matters. Possibly less wind noise due to the softer material, but I don't think it's much, and looking at the vid that is certainly a standard. In part because it is original to the jeep, and because the vid got close enough to show the material. Seems to be in pretty good shape.

The most important thing from the vid was the rear window to me. It's important because if you ever need to replace the rear window you need to get the right one. Early JKs had a smaller rear window than later. You can see the same thing on the hard tops. Early JK (up to 11 or 12, rear window was straight up from the rear gate, later the window are wider than the gate. Easy check. However replacement ones are annoying to figure out what you are getting, take care when removing them from the jeep in the summer. they scratch super easy.

On the other side, if you ever replace the top, any top will fit on any JK. You do need door surrounds and frame for whatever top you get. I'm not sure how the door uppers work though with regard to different tops.
