Finally Jeep is listening to what customers want! I may actually trade our 2009 JKUR in for a brand spanking new Diesel JLUR with 8-speed automatic. This Jeep will get 2 MPG better mileage on the highway estimated than my Odyssey minivan does with it's miserly 3.5L gasser! It's my Birthday today and I'm all giddy . Just went and priced out a Jeep with my trade in's and although I don't really want to buy a new vehicle right now, It might just push me over the edge here!

Maybe I should consider advertising my JKUR here if someone might be interested, I would always like to take CASH in to make a deal......

This is what it would take to make me part with our JKUR that we really love, A diesel engine in the Wrangler at last!!!!

I know this is a JK forum and you all know I love our JKUR but what a diesel guy like me really wants is this under the hood coupled with a transmission that will actually transfer the power properly so it is fun to drive and works well off-road.

At the track, this 4863-pound Wrangler Unlimited Sahara recorded an impressive 6.7-second dash to 60 mph. The quarter-mile happens in 15.2 seconds, with the Jeep crossing the line at 89 mph. While it isn't the quickest Wrangler we've run through the numbers, the difference is so negligible that it will go unnoticed. Plus, the diesel's off-the-line acceleration never fails to result in a grin.

On the road, the Wrangler drives very much like an off-roader; two live axles and the quickest recirculating-ball-steering gear available in a Wrangler (at 14.3:1) isn't a recipe for apex hunting. On the skidpad, there's a meager 0.64 g of grip. To compensate for this ute's additional 394 pounds over a similarly equipped V-6 model, Jeep increased the front and rear spring rates by 10 percent and added diesel-specific dampers, making the ride noticeably firmer. The huskier Wrangler also needed 198 feet to stop from 70 mph. That's 22 more than the gasser Sahara V-6.

The power efficiency comes with a hefty price, though. The engine alone is a $4000 option and requires a mandatory $2000 upgrade for the eight-speed automatic. At launch, the engine will be available only in four-door Unlimited models. Our well-equipped Sahara stickered at an eye-watering $57,940, and fully kitted Rubicons can climb into the mid-$60s. For bargain shoppers, the diesel can be had on the value menu for under $40,000 in the Wrangler Sport.

There are parts of this that sound great, other parts..... eh......

I priced it out on-line as a budget friendly just under $40K with few add-ons. The 1-ton Dana axle kit and big-brakes will make it stop faster than the 22 extra feet required over the gasser. Now, if they can just put it in some other colors than the basic 4: Black, White, Grey & Green only...... I'm partial to the Green but my wife would like the blue FWIW. I would also like to get the power pack without having to pay for an UP scaled model that comes with almost $4K in extras I don't want/need.

However, I am scheduled to test drive one in 2 weeks when the first shipment comes in to the dealer near me I have used in the past. My butt-o-meter will tell me if I like it or not on the test drive. I already have a grin on my face though with the thought of a Diesel JLU parked next to my Diesel D-Max GMC & my Diesel Jeep CJ 😁.

And now to keep Jeep as king of the market share over the new Bronco that is coming out in 2021, We present to you the 392 concept......

A HEMI powered Jeep:

Released the same day as the Bronco, Yesterday the 14th of July....... This is an exciting time in the 4x4 market for sure!
Go and vote for the V8 HEMI powered Jeep and maybe we will see one by year's end to combat the Bronco Sasquach 4-dr 1st edition on 35" meats.....

I also would like to see a diesel Jeep, but buying one i'm not sure yet. I know how much I can get a 4bt Cummins for so building another Conversion isn't a big deal for me.

I wish you could get the diesel in manual transmission, sigh.

With the announcement of the new Bronco a number of things are happening to the 2021 Wranglers. I forget what the list is, but a few options are becoming standard. Front camera on Rubicon I think is one. A google search would show what the current list is. Just a heads up. I'm guessing there will be more things.

The performance of the eco-diesel looks very nice to me as well. Especially with the 3.8 that powers mine.

Those eco diesel engines are great... up until they go out of warranty and you find out just how badly all the emission stuff ruins everything :ROFLMAO:

And another reason I haven't pulled the trigger just yet on a new one.

UNLIMITED lifetime warranty offered on 2009-2010 MY Jeep JK's....... It's really hard to sell if you have one of these.
